Here are few basic things to consider:

First things first – what exactly is an Managed Service Provider – or a MSP?

A MSP is designed to take the place of a dedicated IT staff through ongoing monitoring of a variety of IT solutions as well as management of client applications and IT infrastructure all while creating and building recurring revenue.

WHAT YOU NEED

When making your decision to get into the MSP model, you want to be sure you have a good in-house support structure to be able to provide adequate IT support to your clients. You will also want to make sure you have a good billing engine to help manage the incoming stream of support and billing.

CONSIDER YOUR OFFERINGS

Choose what you are going to offer your clients with care. Do a little marketing research. Look at your existing clientele and those you have supported in the past. What are there needs today? What needs are not being met?

CHOOSE YOUR VENDORS WISELY

When it comes time for you to choose vendors to help you grow as an MSP, make sure you are looking to ones that have some longevity behind them. Make sure they have been in the industry for a while and that they are stable – read reviews, find out their history, research them.

You will also want to consider what efficiencies these vendors bring to the table? What do they have built in that can help you grow as a MSP? Can they help you build out your billing structure? Scale your marketing efforts?
